About Us

Superior Auto Works is an independently owned automotive service center that has been in operation since 2003.  Our mission is to improve the standards of excellence in automotive repair services.  We achieve this by creating a strong partnership with our customers – a partnership that is based on trust, integrity, communication and genuine concern for top-notch customer service.

Our service technicians are natural born engineers that have achieved advanced training and certifications.    Our service manager was trained in Germany and grew up passionate about high-end European vehicles.    We pride ourselves on our ability to repair wide array of vehicles (both foreign and domestic), and we are diligent about learning the latest technological advancements.

To assure our customers that we stand behind our mission, all of our repairs are guaranteed on parts and labor for 12 months or 12,000 miles –whichever comes first.

The Crew

Joe - Owner & Senior Technician
Joe is a natural born instructor, with a great sense of responsibility and self-reliance. He was born on an American military base and lived his early years on the West Coast. (His mother is German and his parents met while his father was stationed in Germany.) Joe moved to Germany at an early age and grew up tinkering with anything that needed fixing - he quickly became passionate about German engineering.

He enrolled in Germany’s elite BMW training program – BMW Technical Institute. After years of intense study, he graduated with their highest degree – Master Technician. While pursuing his academics, Joe also worked as an apprentice for Krah & Enders BMW whose owner was the President of BMW. Joe moved back to the United States after completion of his studies to be closer to his family.

Joe worked for many independent shops around town - AutoHaus, Black Forest Motors, and Euro Motorworks - as well as a few dealerships. His decision to open his own shop came from his desire to create a business that closely reflected his training and upbringing in Europe. Joe believes in fixing things right the first time and offering customers a finished product that he and his team can be proud of. Treating each customer like family, Joe believes in offering a truly unique customer experience – building loyalty through trust and precision engineering. Joe continues to be passionate about foreign vehicles and has enjoyed building a team of employees that share his dedication to the European customer service philosophy.

Jeroen (Dutch) - Service Manager
When you call Superior Auto Works you will more than likely be greeted by our Service Manager, Dutch (please excuse the occasional strong accent).  Dutch is another European addition to our team - he was born and raised in The Netherlands.

Dutch came to the United States in 1989 while working with an international professional Theater company.

Dutch served in the US Air Force for 10 years and it was during this time that he learned the Vehicle Maintenance trade. In 2001 Dutch re-joined the “civilian” world and has worked at several local automotive repair shops. He finally landed at Superior Auto Works with 20 years of automotive knowledge under his belt.

Dutch's love for European cars is obviously apparent. As all the other members of the Superior team, Dutch loves to present each customer with a high quality European vehicle repair experience. He enjoys working for a highly skilled team and orchestrating top-notch repair services.

Rick – ASE and Bosch Master Technician
Rick is our ASE and Bosch Master Technician and has over 40 years experience. He has one of the best mechanical minds in the business.  His passion began on the campus of Purdue University where he entered the Architectural Engineering program.  Leaving the program prior to graduation to get married, Rick turned his attention to his love of European cars.  Rebuilding European car engines and fixing the family fleet had always been Rick’s favorite pastime.  So when he left Purdue it was a natural transition to start his own auto repair shop.

In 1972 he began working for Kline Porsche-Audi on North Keystone, in Indianapolis. He attended numerous schools and ultimately became the primary Air Conditioning installer.

After working for the Porsche Audi dealer for two and a half years, he applied for and was hired to be a line tech for the Mercedes Benz dealer (World Wide Motors) in Indianapolis. He attended various schools, mostly related to new car introduction.

After about three years of working as a tech, he was elevated to a position as the assistant service manager. He was given the position of service manager.

He then decided to work for Autohaus on Westfield, just North of Broadripple. Autohaus became one of the original Bosch BSCs which required training in multiple systems to fulfill their agreement with Bosch. This allowed him to attend and complete his training in all of the classes available at that time. Many of the vehicles he worked on were in need of engine rebuilds, transmission overhauls and about any repair that you might imagine. Often he was asked to work on adding performance enhancements, such as turbochargers, exhaust systems, superchargers, etc..

Along the way the ownership changed and the decision was made to move to the North Keystone address. This move allowed him to become even more diversified in the types of vehicles he worked on. During his eighteen years with Autohaus, He worked on everything from Audi's to Humvee's and everything in between. His main focus became Mercedes Benz. At the time there was a large grey market influence and the dealers would largely refuse to work on these cars. He found it enjoyable to be working on such new and hi-line vehicles in those years. The occasional Ferrari or engine upgrade, electronic add-one, etc., made this chapter in his career, interesting and broadened his knowledge immensely.

In June of 2000, He began working at Euro Motorworks in Castelton. He largely focused on Mercedes Benz, BMW and Volvo maintenance and repairs in his 12 years with Euro Motorworks. That however was mixed with repairs and maintenance of Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, Saab, Lexus, and Rover.

Rick`s vast experience allows him to quickly diagnose cars, and his meticulous attention to detail means cars get fixed correctly the first time.
